Compare the refurbished iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to decide which model matches your budget, performance needs, and usage habits.
Quick answer
Choose the refurbished iPhone 11 Pro if you want a compact, affordable flagship with excellent everyday performance. Pick the iPhone 15 Pro Max if you need the latest camera system, larger display, and the most future-proof performance.
Design and Display: Compact Classic vs Large Modern
The iPhone 11 Pro features a 5.8-inch Super Retina XDR display in a compact stainless steel and glass body. It fits easily in one hand and slips into small pockets. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, sports a larger 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display with thinner bezels and a titanium frame that reduces weight despite its size. If you prefer one-handed use, the 11 Pro is more comfortable; if you watch a lot of video or multitask, the 15 Pro Max gives you more screen real estate.
Performance and Longevity: A15 vs A17 Pro
The iPhone 11 Pro runs on the A13 Bionic chip, which still handles daily tasks like messaging, social media, and casual gaming smoothly. However, it lacks the raw power and efficiency of the A17 Pro found in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The newer chip supports advanced gaming features, faster app launches, and better power management. For heavy users or those planning to keep their phone for several years, the 15 Pro Max offers more headroom for future iOS updates and demanding apps.
Camera Capabilities: Triple Lens Evolution
Both phones have triple-camera systems, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max brings significant upgrades: a 48MP main sensor, 5x optical zoom, and improved low-light performance. The iPhone 11 Pro's 12MP cameras still produce excellent photos for everyday use, but you lose the telephoto reach and computational photography features like Photonic Engine. If photography is a priority, the 15 Pro Max is the clear winner.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Price vs Performance: The refurbished iPhone 11 Pro is significantly cheaper (around $133) than the iPhone 15 Pro Max (around $442). You sacrifice raw speed and future-proofing but save over $300.
- Size and Portability: The 11 Pro's 5.8-inch display is easier to handle one-handed and more pocketable. The 15 Pro Max's 6.7-inch screen is better for media consumption but bulkier in daily carry.
- Camera Versatility: The 15 Pro Max offers a 48MP main sensor and 5x optical zoom, ideal for zoom shots and high-resolution photos. The 11 Pro's 12MP triple camera is still capable but lacks the latest computational features. If you shoot a lot of telephoto or low-light photos, the 15 Pro Max's camera system is worth the extra cost.
